Frequently Asked Questions

About Stained Glass

What is stained glass made of?

Traditional stained glass is made from coloured glass, which gets its colour from metallic salts added during manufacturing. The individual pieces are cut to shape and joined together using copper foil (the Tiffany method) and lead/tin solder. Some pieces are also finished with a lead came border.

Is stained glass safe to handle?

Yes, finished stained glass pieces are safe to handle. The glass edges are fully enclosed in lead or solder, so there are no exposed sharp edges. As with any glass object, we recommend handling with care to avoid drops or impacts as glass is very fragile.

Our items are also made with a solder containing lead, which can be harmful if ingested (as long as you don't lick it, you're ok!) . We recommend that you wash your hands after handling your piece, and display it away from children and pets. All items will come with a care sheet detailing how to handle and clean your stained glass piece. Otherwise, please refer to our 'Stained Glass Care' page.

Will the colours fade over time?

The colour in stained glass is integral to the glass itself, not a surface coating, so it won't fade with light exposure the way paint or dye might. With normal care, your piece will retain its colour and beauty for many years.

Custom Commissions

Do you take custom commissions?

Yes! We love working on bespoke pieces. Whether you have a specific design in mind, want to recreate something meaningful, or simply have a colour palette and a rough idea, we're happy to discuss what's possible. Get in touch with us to start the conversation.

Can I request a colour change on an existing listing?

Absolutely. Many of our designs can be made in alternative colour combinations. If you've seen a piece you love but would like it in different colours, just contact us before placing your order and we'll let you know what's achievable. Custom colour requests may affect lead times.

Shipping

How do you pack stained glass for shipping?

We take great care packaging every piece. Each item is individually wrapped and cushioned to protect it during transit. We use sturdy boxes with plenty of padding to minimise the risk of damage. We also try and recycle packaging where we can.

How long will my order take to arrive?

Made-to-order pieces typically take 2–4 weeks to complete before dispatch, depending on glass availability. Please contact to clarify completion times.

Ready-made items are usually dispatched within 3–5 business days. Delivery times after dispatch depend on your location and the shipping method selected at checkout.

Do you ship internationally?

Unfortunately we don't currently ship internationally.

What if my order arrives damaged?

Please refer to our Returns Policy for full details. In short — contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photos and we'll make it right.
